#SOXXYSOULS Giving Event at the Bridgeport Rescue Mission Socks are the #1 Requested Item by Homeless Shelters
On December 21, 2015, Soxxy partnered with the Bridgeport Rescue Mission to give back to the community in Fairfield County, Connecticut. The Bridgeport Rescue Mission works to bring everyday essentials and a warm meal to the struggling men, women and children. As a Fairfield County native, Soxxy founder, Sarah Stabile, wanted to make a difference in her community. “The Bridgeport Rescue Mission does amazing work fighting poverty from the inside out,” said Stabile. “I was shocked to learn that 36.7% of children and 16.2% of families in Bridgeport live below the poverty line. Soxxy is in a position to help our neighbors and share the XO spirit.”
Soxxy, along with help from their Soxperts, handed out #SoxxySouls Kits, which included new socks, underwear and t-shirts, while serving dinner to 100 men, women and children. Soxxy also provided socks to the Mobile Kitchen trucks which transport food and other living essentials to the housing projects. The Mobile Kitchen served struggling families a pantry bag containing enough food to feed a family for a week, along with Soxxy socks.
Not many people know how needed socks are in homeless shelters. “Socks are among the most needed items at homeless shelters, yet the least-often donated,” said Executive Director, Terry Wilcox. “Because of the shortage, the nation’s homeless population is constantly at risk of serious foot issues. What’s unique about Soxxy is that each sock has XO’s on the inside representing hugs and kisses. We appreciate Sarah and her team for sharing their love and support from the inside out.”
